Why The 8 Minute Ripple Is Not Like Other Networking

Tomorrow night we are hosting our Great Pumpkin Halloween Ripple in Austin from 6:30-8:30PM at Soma Vida.  It's gonna be a blast!

It struck me that unless you've actually been to a Ripple you might want to know what an 8 Minute Ripple is all about.

Well honestly, when I first created the event, I decided that the same old traditional networking events were no longer working for me.  They came with oodles of pressure to have an impressive line (also known as your 30 second elevator speech) and this assumed and often uncomfortable exercise of having to exchange business cards. 

I didn't like the experience.  Never have and never will. I realize hate is a strong word but it's not quite strong enough when it comes to networking the wrong way to me.  The environment just seemed broken to me.  So I set out to change it.

When we came up with The 8 Minute Ripple Concept we truly wanted to offer a different experience.  We wanted people to come and feel comfortable being themselves.  We wanted to make it about engaged connection, not sales prospecting and annoying sales pitches.  We wanted to create a platform that enabled people to be able to humanize the process of connecting with others in a fun, safe and no pressure environment.

Is it for everyone?  Maybe not.  Power Networkers hate this kind of approach because they don't get to game it.  And that's fine.  But most people are longing for a better way to build their personal and professional networks.  Whether you are a stay at home mom, a start-up entrepreneur or a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, there's something in an 8 Minute Ripple for you.  In fact, I can almost guarantee that you'll learn almost as much from the process of Rippling as you'll end up learning about yourself.

Bottom line, you'll meet lots of interesting people and you'll find the evening to be an experience like no other.  In fact after years of doing Ripples, it still amazes me what an incredible experience we've been able to give so many people.  Every event is uniquely different but each Ripple is always filled with tons of laughs, lots of smiles and tremendous people sharing incredible stories and experiences.
