Ripple Connection Question of the Week
Ripple Connection Questions are a unique way to engage people in conversation. Whether with a complete stranger or someone you already know, but want to know better, using Ripple Connection Questions (RCQ) accelerate the dialogue and deepen the connection. The questions are by design fun to ask and fun to answer and can take your connection to an entirely new level. Come on, break out of that shell yours and start Rippling.
Trust me you will be glad you did!
In keeping with the Lottery Ticket theme...this week's Ripple Connection Question is....
Who is the most amazing person you discovered
purely by accident or random connection?
I can't wait to hear the answers to this one!

Nearly ten years ago I met my husband through an ad in the Austin Chronicle. Wait! Let me explain. I was responding to an ad for a housemate. It described "a country boy, part-time dad, in a musical household". The musical part intrigued me, but, then again, maybe not...I waited several days before calling. Acoustic guitar, as it turns out. Phew.
Some months after I moved in, we took a trip to Mexico, as friends. Wink, wink. Well, now we have a beautiful 3 1/2 year old son.
In retrospect, it seems as if there was some design behind the many people I have met "randomly". While it doesn't feel like an accident, it certainly wasn't planned by me. As for the "most amazing" random connection, Jed takes the prize!
My most recent amazing out of nowhere connection was made through Twitter. (http://www.twitter.com)
I picked up Jim Long from the Twitter timeline during the time of the Virginia Tech incident. Jim works as a camera man for NBC News. Since that time I have virtually made trips with Jim all over the world via Twitter and his blog.
From that connection with Jim I have made many new friends and developed interesting connections all over the world.
I have certainly gotten quite an education about new media and web 2.0.
Check him out...

I met a lady who was a customer at my work. She is the head pastry chef at Mackinac Island's Grand Hotel. She lives there 10 months out of the year, and gets to see her children the other 2 months because GH won't allow children to live with their parents in the servants quarters of the hotel. She is an abuse survivor, and this is how she provides for her children and herself while hiding out from her ex husband.
You!
I got to meet you! Though we have never officially met.
I was introduced to your BLOG by someone at work that just raves about you and this Ripple stuff. I started reading it and after the past four or five months I feel like I really know you. You are incredible and so inspirational in so many ways.
You were the lottery ticket I was looking for. I was skeptical at first but when I started applying what you say to my work and to my relationships things have really changed. I am glad I didn't just let your lottery ticket sit in the drawer and go unchecked because it would have been a big loss on my part.
Thank you STEVE HARPER for what you do.

Risking the amazing Julie (you rock!!) getting after me for taking so long to comment on this post, I had to wait... because over the last three days I was experiencing the development of a new friendship that started "randomly" and also reconnecting with an dear friend, Jon Campbell, who is responsible for my meeting Mr. Ripple in the first place.
You see, Jon and I met at a conference because we happened to be the among the last couple of folks making it through the buffet line at lunch. There was only one table with any open seats, so we had to sit near each other. Thank goodness that Jon already lived a Ripple-centric life because, back then, I'd nary a clue where to really start an effective conversation.
Plus, it was such a gift to me that he was willing to listen to a passionate grad student ramble on about ideas and aspirations.
Jon saw value in what I had to shared, and went out of his way to maintain communication with me (unlike the other conference attendees I met that day). Through his supportive friendship I met the remarkable Asha Prasad. Through Asha, I met Steve Harper.
I am excited that, now that Jon is making a career change, and I'm no longer that bumbling grad student, I am able to create some Ripples for him.
