The 8 Minute Ripple Kick Off - Part Two

As I mentioned during my last post, the official kick off for The 8 Minute Ripple was a roaring success! Some of you emailed me and wanted to know more about the event itself and what the ultimate purpose is for having it. Well let me explain!

I mentioned previously, I created this event to be different than your typical networking event. The 8 Minute Ripple could be compared to speed networking (though it aghast me to say that) but with a purpose! We focus on providing a safe, energetic environment that allows people to really connect as individuals. The goal is to find common ground or what I call a connection points. People are paired up for a period of 8 minutes. We provide a series of questions that are fun to ask and fun to answer! The questions are designed to reveal something about the person answering the question and hopefully allow the partners to establish a connection point and a base line for continued conversation following the event.

We have all been there when something in common brings us together with what would otherwise be a complete stranger. Perhaps it's the fact we are both wearing UT National Champion shirts or have the same kind of IPOD. Whatever it is, it's that "something" that brings us together and helps us to identify ourselves with another. When that happens, the fact we do not know this other person is irrelevant. It's the fact we have something in common that allows us to share a smile, exchange a high five or better yet...bridge a conversation.

In life the opportunity to create a connection point with those who cross our path in life is easy if we are prepared and willing to look for it. Problem is....very few people do. Hence why I thought creating an environment for people who would likely never meet and giving them an opportunity to find a connection point would be amazingly fun and hugely rewarding for all concerned. You know what? It has been!

The 8 Minute Ripple has proven to be a great environment for people that want to bridge some amazing connections. It has been called just another networking event and I believe in my heart of hearts that would be the wrong description of it. Creating a new way to build connections and in a larger sense, community, is what I believe The 8 Minute Ripple will become known for not only here in Austin but as we look to expand and take this concept nationally!
