Freelance Austin Talk - Connecting

I spoke at the Freelance Austin group this past Wednesday and I have to tell you, if you are in Austin and looking for some great and extremely talented people to network with, this is the place to go. Their website is www.freelanceaustin.org and I highly encourage you to check them out.

One of the things that I spoke about was connecting with the client. I don't mean just serving the client but really, really connecting with them. There is a difference and those differences can be instrumental as to whether today's client remains a client tomorrow, next month, next year or forever.

In my experience, I have always tried to find a way to be a valuable resource to my clients in multiple capacities. Most people look at me like I have a bug on my face when I say this but I spend less time focusing on my business and what service I can offer my client or prospect and more time on how I might make my personal contribution to their personal or professional success.

When you can set business aside for a minute, or at least YOUR business, then some wonderful doors of opportunity can fly open for you. Clients and prospects begin seeing you as a person and not someone trying to push a personal agenda or sell them something. The barriers of that vendor/customer relationship seem to come down and trust me when I say this, when that happens, everyone, including you, is happier. The foundation for a much more healthier, longer-term business relationship is being laid and it will payoff in multiple capacities.

More on this later....

I encourage you to post your comments!!!!
